This workshop aims to get back to the heart of what self-direction means and how Consumer Directed Care (CDC) has the potential to empower older people to direct the support they need to live good lives in the community. Simon will outline how we need to change our focus from older people as consumers to being citizens of our community, and how individual budgets are one means to support this if implemented appropriately. This will be a challenging and inspirational day for all those who aspire to using CDC as a means to enable and empower older people to direct their services and experience real quality and value in their home care supports. A panel of consumers and carers will also provide their views on quality and value in home care.
