Scholarship Opportunity in Aged Care at Southern Cross University (SCU), Coffs Harbour NSW

A funding opportunity is available for a PhD project designed to assess the effects of a Montessori-based model of aged care in a non-residential respite centre. The project will be undertaken at Southern Cross University (SCU) and the Hastings District Respite Centre’s in Port Macquarie, supervised by Dr James Donnelly and is to be specifically focused on the assessment of the Montessori Model of aged care being implemented in the Hastings District Respite Care facilities and programs in Port Macquarie, NSW. The program is designed to assess and support clients, carers and facility staff.

The applicant must

  • Meet the PhD enrolment criteria at SCU.

  • Have a demonstrated interest in aged care or dementia care research or clinical services and

  • Live in or move to the Coffs Harbour to Port Macquarie region of NSW.

The scholarship offers the following:

a.A stipend of $30,000 per year for 3.5 years. Part-time enrolment will be considered on a case by case basis and the stipend would be prorated.

b.Annual conference attendance support of $1000 will be provided to the candidate in years 2 and 3 of the candidacy.

c.The candidate will receive the typical SCU support for a Psychology Higher Degree Research student (shared office space, computing/internet access, library access and support, professional development seminars, possible opportunities to serve as a casual marker or tutor as appropriate (funded beyond the base stipend rate)).
