Senate to investigate looming shortfall in aged care workers
smh.com.au, Judith Ireland: A looming shortfall in Australia's aged care sector has prompted a Senate inquiry into the future of the workforce.There are currently about 350,000 people working in the aged care sector. But with the rapidly ageing population, it is estimated this will need to rise to around one million workers by 2050. At the same time, the aged care workforce is ageing, with half the workforce due to reach retirement age in 15 years.
