Jake the dog gets warm welcome from Swan Care Bentley residents

THE latest resident to be welcomed at Swan Care in Bentley Park has four legs and a tail that wags enthusiastically.

Standard poodle Jake is the facility’s new therapy dog.

He was adopted by village residents Ann and John Jacobs after his future looked uncertain and, since moving in, became a pal to the whole place.

The three-year-old hound meets and greets seniors at Swan Care’s Kingia Tandara aged care facilities, where Mrs Jacobs takes him on twice-weekly visits to bring companionship to residents, the majority of whom had owned and loved dogs in their younger years.

“Jake has had an extremely positive influence on residents, as well as SwanCare’s staff and our neighbours at the village,” Mrs Jacobs said.

“Already we are finding that his presence is very relaxing for residents, they love stroking him and giving him treats, and his visits certainly increase interactivity with residents who are living with dementia; the feedback we’ve received from everyone has been very positive.”
