The Aged Care Roadmap – Cross check your destination

The Aged Care Sector Committee, under the direction of the Australian Government, has released the Aged Care Roadmap – an outline of what is required to achieve a consumer driven, market based, sustainable aged care system. This Roadmap builds on the Aged Care Statement of Principles and sets out short (within 2 years), medium (3-5 years) and long term (5-7 years) actions to achieve this future end state. Areas for further action to respond to future challenges and transform aged care have been grouped into nine key domains: 1. How do consumers prepare for and engage with their aged care? 2. How are eligibility and care needs assessed? 3. How are consumers with different needs supported? 4. How do we make dementia core business throughout the system? 5. What care is available? 6. Who provides care? 7. Who pays? 8. How will the formal and informal workforce be supported? 9. How will quality be achieved? Lead Partner of Bentleys Health and Ageing unit, Heath Shonhan, applauds the Committee on this initiative. “The aged care sector in Australia has experienced tumultuous change over the past decade – and industry reform has become ‘business as usual’. This Roadmap provides all industry stakeholders, from consumers and providers to financiers and regulators, with a guidebook they can use to confidently think ahead and strengthen the system for our growing future needs”. “We encourage anyone with any connection to aged care – as a provider, consumer or industry participant – to download and read the Aged Care Roadmap”.
