Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to make palliative care pledge in Geelong

EARLIER, the Liberals confirmed a $5 million pledge to kickstart Anam Cara’s plans to develop a new 20-bed community hospice in Armstrong Creek.

Anam Cara is in negotiations to secure the land for the new facility with preliminary blueprints released today.

project will cost $15 million overall with the $10 million set to be sourced from “local project funding” and philanthropic donations.

Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson, pictured, will campaign with Mr Turnbull today and praised Anam Cara’s strong links with the health sector and private providers.

Ms Henderson spoke about her interest in cancer treatment and given her late parents, former state MP Ann and solicitor Michael Henderson, died of the disease.

“The Anam Cara board has mapped out a bold vision to expand their services in a sustainable way,” the Liberal MP said. “A newly constructed, state-of-the-art Anam Cara Community Hospice will be a wonderful asset to our community.

“My parents died of cancer so I understand first hand how important these services are to so many families.”
