Appointment of Panel to Review National Aged Care Quality Regulatory Processes

he Federal Minister for Aged Care, Ken Wyatt, yesterday announced the two person team who will conduct the independent review on national aged care quality regulatory processes.

The review follows the failures of care identified at the Makk and McLeay wards at the Oakden Older Persons Mental Health Service in South Australia. Minister Wyatt said he had appointed Ms Kate Carnell AO, a veteran public administrator and regulator to lead the Review, in conjunction with Professor Ron Paterson ONZM, an international expert on patients’ rights, complaints, health care quality and the regulation of healthcare professions. Minister Wyatt said that the review is a crucial step in ensuring that the Commonwealth’s aged care regulatory processes continue to protect older Australians. “The skills and experience of Ms Carnell and Professor Paterson extend across public administration, health and regulatory standards,” Minister Wyatt said.
