Aged Care Facts

January 22, 2019

There were 207,142 operational government-subsidised places in residential facilities (Nursing Homes) and 91,847 people receiving home care packages as of June 2018. Waiting list for approved Home Care Places ballooned to 127,000, this is significantly more than the 91,847 packaged available.

Waiting times for Nursing Home beds increased from 105 days in 2016/17 to 121 days in 2017/18, or did it. This figure is from the clients approved assessment date so it isn't a good figure to rely on.  Clients could be just wanting to stay home longer (not applying for a Nursing Home spots straight away or rejecting initial offers of Nursing Home spots), it is very had to make any solid conclusions from this data, it would be better to publish the average vacancy rate changes each year.
